Introduction to Digital Photography

Or “How Does This #@*% Thing Work?” focuses on learning and becoming familiar with the operation of a digital camera and includes guidelines and tips for improving the pictures you take. In the course, I work with the class as a whole on general principles and with individuals on camera specific issues (participants provide their own cameras). The course has five three-hour sessions in addition to student assignments outside of class time and includes review of student work.

Looking for help with your digital camera? How about getting a handle on Photoshop? I teach two courses geared toward getting newcomers to the digital realm more comfortable and capable with photography’s new technological challenges.

Photoshop for Photographers

Or “How the Heck Does This #@$*% Program Work?” is a somewhat more advanced course with a minimum of seven three-hour sessions of hands-on instruction on the basics of image management and editing in Photoshop Elements 7. (Elements is a consumer level version of Photoshop that translates readily to the full program but is much more affordable and in most cases probably more than adequate for the photographer’s needs.) Instruction in this course includes basic image management and correction, working with tools, working with selections, working with layers and masks, working with filters, applying blending modes, working with text, preparing for output and more. Participants need to provide their own computers.
